Semi-finished 304 Stainless Steel Tube

A semi-finished 304 stainless steel tube is a hot-extruded seamless hollow — the intermediate stage between a solid round billet and a finished-dimension pipe. Jilaida, a professional manufacturer in China forms it on a 2,000-ton forward extrusion press: the billet is induction-heated, pierced, and forced through a die in one stroke, producing a round, weld-free tube with consistent wall thickness across its full length. Standard stock runs OD 89 mm × WT 9 mm × length 3,000–3,500 mm; all three dimensions can be retooled against a buyer's drawing. Each piece is pickled to strip oxide scale and inspected before shipment, accompanied by an EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate covering chemistry and mechanical properties.

As a professional manufacturer in China, Jilaida factory's Semi-finished 304 Stainless Steel Tube targets tube-reducing plants, cold-drawing workshops, precision-machining houses, and hydraulic or instrumentation tube producers — operations that need a dependable starting hollow, not a pipe destined for end-user service. Its value is twofold.

First, extrusion preserves unbroken grain flow around the full circumference: no weld seam, no circumferential discontinuity, no directional weakness — properties that matter wherever the finished tube will face pressure or cyclic loading.

Second, the blank shortens the buyer's downstream route. Reaching the same final dimension from solid bar calls for repeated draw passes with annealing and pickling in between; the extruded hollow cuts several of those intermediate steps, reducing labor, furnace time, and handling while keeping material yield above 95%.

For buyers processing 50 tonnes per month or more, the total — blank price plus the shortened secondary sequence — sits within a few percent of an all-cold-drawn tube from an integrated producer.

Extrusion-grade structure at a competitive landed cost: that is the case for the semi-finished 304 stainless steel tube from Jiangsu Ji Lai Da.

The Starting Point, Not the End Product

Some projects do not need a finished pipe. They need a clean, round, seamless hollow that their own line will draw, roll, or machine down to the final spec. Jiangsu Ji Lai Da Nickel-Based Alloy Co., Ltd. runs 304 in this form because a chunk of our customer base is exactly that — a downstream processor, a re-drawer, a hydraulic tube shop. The semi-finished 304 stainless steel tube is sold to those buyers as a controlled-input blank, not as a pipe that will ever see service in the as-shipped condition.

What Your Shop Does With It

Cold pilgering down to capillary or instrument tubing. Cold drawing to precision hydraulic or instrumentation tube. Machining into custom fittings and valve bodies. Re-extruding to a smaller OD. The value of a semi-finished 304 stainless steel tube is what the buyer's line turns it into, and the way to keep that value high is to make sure the starting geometry is right: uniform wall end to end, round cross-section, clean pickled surface, no internal laps or seams. That is the part Jiangsu Ji Lai Da Nickel-Based Alloy Co., Ltd. controls on the press.

Hot Extrusion at a Cold-Drawing Price

There is an old assumption that hot extrusion is the expensive route — high furnace cost, big press, thick tooling, slow cycle. For a finished pipe that assumption is mostly right. For a semi-finished 304 stainless steel tube it breaks down, because the comparison is not "hot extrusion vs cold drawing to the same final dimension", it is "hot-extruded blank plus one drawing pass vs solid bar plus four or five drawing passes plus inter-stage annealing plus inter-stage pickling". Jiangsu Ji Lai Da Nickel-Based Alloy Co., Ltd. runs 89 mm billets at a yield rate above 95% with material loss below 5%, and ships the blank in a single forming step. The buyer skips the multi-pass drawing sequence and skips two or three intermediate anneals. By the time the finished tube comes off the buyer's draw bench, the total cost — mill price of the blank plus the buyer's drawing cost — lands within a few percent of what a cold-drawn finished tube would have cost out of a single integrated line. You get the grain-flow benefit of extrusion (uniform structure, no weld seam, no orbital defect) at close to cold-drawing price. For buyers running 50 tons a month and up, that delta changes the P&L.

How to Spec a Semi-Finished Tube in the RFQ

Inquiry turnaround depends on three numbers. Jiangsu Ji Lai Da Nickel-Based Alloy Co., Ltd. quotes fastest when the RFQ has: the target OD after your drawing process (not the OD you want to receive from us — there is usually a 1–3 mm draw-down), the wall thickness you need to start with, and the as-extruded length (3000–3500 mm is standard, longer is possible on a custom cycle). Add the grade (304 standard, 304L for welded downstream applications), the surface condition (pickled is default, as-extruded available on request), the order quantity in kg or pieces, and the destination port. With those, the order desk returns a written offer in 24–48 hours. Quote validity is 30 days; orders above 5 tons get a 30-day price hold. Shipping runs FOB Shanghai / Ningbo / Lianyungang, CIF to Jebel Ali / Mundra / Singapore, or DDP to the buyer's warehouse. Mill test certificate per EN 10204 3.1 is included; third-party inspection (SGS / BV / TUV) is on the buyer's account but can be arranged with the order. Send the spec, the quantity, and the port — that is enough to start.
