FAQ

Q1: Is Х20Н25 the same as Alloy 825 (N08825)?

Not identical. Alloy 825 adds molybdenum (~3 %) and copper (~2 %) to the 20Cr-25Ni base, giving broader acid resistance. Х20Н25 in the basic GOST composition may or may not include Mo. If your spec requires the Mo and Cu of N08825, state it explicitly and we will produce to that chemistry. If you need the base 20Cr-25Ni without Mo, Х20Н25 is the correct designation.

Q2: When should I step up from Х20Н25 to C276?

When reducing acids (HCl, concentrated H₂SO₄ without oxidizers) are the primary corrosion driver rather than chlorides. C276's 16 % Mo handles reducing media far better. If your problem is chloride SCC at moderate acidity, Х20Н25 is usually sufficient and considerably cheaper per kilogram.

Q3: Can this grade be welded?

Yes. The high nickel content makes Х20Н25 readily weldable by GTAW, GMAW, and SMAW using matching or over-alloyed filler (ERNiCrMo-3 or ERNiCr-3). No preheat required; keep interpass below 150 °C to minimize carbide precipitation. PWHT is not normally required.

Q4: Is this grade available from stock or made to order?

Х20Н25 is less common than 316 or 304, so it is typically produced to order. Lead time 4–6 weeks for standard sizes after order confirmation. We maintain tooling and die sets for the full OD range — no additional setup delay.
