A precision ground hollow cylinder is judged on three things you can't fix in the field: bore surface finish, concentricity, and wall thickness uniformity. Bore finish controls the flow boundary layer — a rough bore in a chlorine scrubber distributor creates turbulence that accelerates local corrosion; in a pharmaceutical reactor it traps residue that fails CIP validation. Concentricity decides whether the part installs without shimming and whether the wall carries pressure evenly. Wall uniformity is the one buyers most often miss — a cylinder that measures on nominal wall at the ends can drop 2 mm at midspan, and that thin band is where pressure-cycle fatigue starts.
