8031 Finished Round Billet

An 8031 finished round billet is a hot-forged, rough-turned, and precision-sawn short bar of Alloy 31 (UNS N08031, 27Cr-31Ni-6.5Mo-N) — a nickel-iron-chromium-molybdenum grade engineered for concentrated acid environments where 316L and Alloy 20 cannot survive. JILAIDA factory supplies it in a lathe-ready condition: forging scale removed, OD turned to a clean metallic surface, and both ends cut on a CNC abrasive saw that leaves a flat, fracture-free face. Standard stock is 154 mm diameter × 500 mm length; diameters from 20 to 350 mm and cut-to-length pieces are available on the same production line. Each billet ships with an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate.

It serves chemical-process equipment manufacturers, acid-plant maintenance contractors, and engineering procurement companies that need a machinable blank for components operating in boiling sulfuric or phosphoric acid — concentrator impellers, evaporator internals, scrubber nozzles, and heat-exchanger tube sheets. These buyers choose 8031 because no lower-alloyed stainless retains adequate corrosion resistance at acid concentrations and temperatures that destroy 316L within months. The core value lies in the intersection of chemistry and cut quality. The 27Cr-31Ni-6.5Mo-N composition delivers uniform corrosion behavior right to the edge of the bar — but only if the end face has not been work-hardened or torn by an aggressive saw cut. Jiangsu Ji Lai Da's abrasive-saw process avoids the micro-cracks, burrs, and work-hardened layers that band-sawing leaves on high-nickel stock, preserving the chemistry that the MTC certifies. The result is a blank that machines predictably: the lathe takes clean steel, not distorted metal, reducing setup time and scrap. For acid-service fabricators running annual volumes from 500 kg upward, the 8031 finished round billet from Jiangsu Ji Lai Da is the most cost-effective path from certified chemistry to finished component.

Grade Identity — Alloy 31 / UNS N08031

You will see this grade listed as Alloy 31, UNS N08031, or simply 8031 in the trade — all three names refer to the same nickel-iron-chromium-molybdenum casting and forging stock. We run 8031 as a 8031 finished round billet because that is the form most of our chemical-plant customers want for the lathe: a chunky, short, clean-cut piece ready to machine into valve bodies, pump shafts, or agitator hubs without an extra breakdown-rolling step.

Cut Quality — Why the End Face Matters

Most 8031 round stock on the market is band-saw cut. The cut works, but it leaves a rough face, occasional tooth marks, and — on a high-nickel grade like 8031 that work-hardens fast — a torn edge where the saw teeth pulled the metal instead of slicing it. We run a CNC abrasive saw with a flood coolant and a slow feed rate matched to the nickel content of the cut. The result is a flat, square end face with no burr, no fracture, no micro-crack at the corner. When your machinist faces the bar in the lathe, he is taking off 0.2–0.3 mm of clean steel, not chasing a tear.

For acid-service valve bodies, pump shafts, and agitator hubs, that clean cut matters for two reasons. First, a fractured or torn end face is a stress concentrator — a crack initiator waiting for the wrong load or the wrong temperature cycle. Second, in 8031 the work-hardened layer left by a bad cut can be 1–2 mm deep, and that layer has different corrosion behavior than the base metal. A flat, unworked cut face means uniform chemistry right to the edge of the bar, which is what the MTC says you have.

Applications — Acid-Service Components

The 8031 finished round billet is specified where process conditions kill everything cheaper: sulfuric acid concentrator impellers running at 110–130 °C, pickling line roll journals in 60% H₂SO₄, phosphoric acid evaporator internals, FGD scrubber spray nozzles, and heat exchanger tube sheets in hot acid service. Downstream customers in the UAE, India, and the Gulf typically machine this billet into valve bodies, flanges, and pump casings; European chemical plants tend to machine it into agitator shafts and reactor internals.
